Recommended Albums: September 2019

On this week’s edition of Recommended Albums, we have a long-awaited pop opus, a meditation on chill, a blistering goth collision, a musical equivalent to a gentle breeze, and more. I only picked eight this month because I didn’t feel like really digging down and finding two more albums to focus on. These were the ones I really liked! If there are any I’m missing or you think I should listen to again, let me know!

Charli XCX – Charli [Asylum]
Going so fast in a car that realities begin to separate, splitting your consciousness between an ultra-futuristic, utopic society and one built out of your neuroses and paranoia.

Jenny Hval – The Practice of Love [Sacred Bones]
Being engulfed by the folds of a Georgia O’Keeffe painting.

Men I Trust – Oncle Jazz [Self-Released]
Upon opening a picture book of sunsets, colorfully-hued clouds leak out of its pages, swirling around the room and intoxicating you with their heaven-touched scent.

Molly Sarlé – Karaoke Angel [Partisan]
After getting a distressing text, you drive out to a local dive bar and blend in to its surroundings, a rainbow light ball occasionally casting light onto your  camouflaged frame.

Reduction Plan – (Ae) Maeth [Redscroll]
Encased in clay, lava slowly covers and fuses you into the Earth’s crust.

Sandro Perri – Soft Landing [Constellation]
Sitting in a rocking chair atop a tall hill watching families have picnics, children play games and olden folk stroll in the park below as a gentle breeze wafts fresh grass your way.

(Sandy) Alex G – House of Sugar [Domino]
You return to the secluded wooded spot that you retreated to as a child to play with imaginary friends to find that it’s been clear-cut for a new suburb.

Slayyyter – Slayyyter [Self-Released]
A chaotic sprite enters your brain and hardwires your pleasure sensors to only fire when listening to early-00s bubblegum pop.
