Recommended Albums: September 2022

It’s much delayed, but I gotta hand it to September 2022. Some damn fine music arrived and solidly inserted itself into my Best Albums of 2022. By this point you’re probably already neck-deep in October jams, so here’s a rosy look back at some of the best September had to offer.

Alex G – God Save The Animals [Domino]
A bar band fights pessimism and nihilism from bleeding into their old standards while playing through their set in an underground bunker immediately after a worldwide catastrophe.

Badge Époque Ensemble – Clouds of Joy [Telephone Explosion]
An improv troupe travels cross country to set up elaborate movie chase sequences through small North American towns and concludes each with a town singalong.

Coby Sey – Conduit [Whities / AD 93]
Immersing yourself in a salty marsh in the far outskirts of the city but the thoughts and sounds of construction equipment and vehicles still intrude on your inner peace.

George FitzGerald – Stellar Drifting [Ghostly International]
A scientist is forced to traverse across an arctic pole to another base with a large satellite dish in hand to transmit the northern lights’ energy and fuel the world’s power supply.

Makaya McCraven – In These Times [International Anthem / XL]
A full-size oak tree growing out of a crack in the sidewalk.

Mamalarky – Pocket Fantasy [Fire Talk]
Putting on a suit made of dryer lint and getting charged up by passerby static electricity.

Oren Ambarchi – Shebang [Drag City]
Your insides are turned into piano keys and percussion, its natural rhythm and harmony providing a stage for a wild game of pinball.

Shygirl – Nymph [Because]
Sinking into and getting lost in the biggest, most plush down comforter on a swan boat under a starry sky.

Sudan Archives – Natural Brown Prom Queen [Stones Throw]
Covered in honey, glistening in the sunrise.

Vieux Farka Touré & Khruangbin – Ali [Dead Oceans]
Pulling over, stepping out of your car, turning the car stereo all the way up for a big bop, and groovy dancing on the side of the freeway.
