Recommended Albums: November 2023

November 2023 came and went, leaving behind some stellar records that easily found their way onto my Best Albums of 2023 list, which should be coming in the next few weeks now that I have this finished. I’m still going through a bunch of records that I missed from the year, but I’d say it’s pretty solidified.

Either way, hope you enjoy this last gasp of Recommended Albums for 2023. I even listed more than 10! Feeling generous out here!

André 3000 – New Blue Sun [Epic]
An ocean grotto garden, tucked behind twisting cavern walls, teems with flora and fauna; the salty ocean breeze offering nutrients to the soil, the sun poking in from strategic natural portholes in the cave’s ceiling. A dedicated follower studies here for their 200th year.

Badge Époque Ensemble – Air, Light & Harmony [Telephone Explosion]
Your buddy’s bachelor pad hangout room seems to exist on an alternate plane of existence where the light pouring in suggests forever twilight, smoke hangs in the air with no odor, the speakers sound just right and vibrate your outfit at just the right frequency to imply magic is afoot.

Chuquimamani-Condori – DJ E [Self-Released]
20 million DJs all spinning a person’s favorite tunes at once during their funeral as their effigy is lifted into the sky by hundreds of paper lanterns.

Daniel Bachman – When The Roses Come Again [Three Lobed]
Decaying film of pastoral American landscapes is projected against a crumbling cement wall, a last remnant of our natural world long gone.

Hilary Woods – Acts of Light [Sacred Bones]
An angel of death pulls a blanket over the Earth for one final slumber.

Kelly Moran – Vesela EP [Warp]
Watching a squall roll in while seated on a park bench, the sky suddenly flooded with beautiful fragments and the park’s inhabitants seeking each other for shelter.

Misha Panfilov – Atlântico [Miraaz]
A town tucked in the Swiss alps celebrates a psychedelic holiday once every five years when the sun aligns with their array of stained glass windows just right, casting the town in multicolored light for a week straight, encouraging its deep-rooted residents to escape their bodies and party freely.

Resavoir – Resavoir [International Anthem]
Waking up every day like it’s going to feel like the end of your current chapter: a refreshing change ahead of you at every turn, characters coming and going with the wind, constant reflection on personal growth.

Tara Clerkin Trio – On The Turning Ground EP [World of Echo]
For a summer you tie multi-colored yarn around a weathervane installed outside your bedroom window. The shifting winds spool the yarn atop the contraption in ways that help you analyze weather patterns.

Thandi Ntuli & Carlos Niño – Rainbow Revisited [International Anthem]
At the beach, a long-lost family photo album washes up at your feet. You spend the waning hours of the evening sitting there, looking at pictures that illuminate your life so much more than the sun ever could.

U.S. Girls – Lives [4AD]
Steam escaping a pressure cooker, an urgent shriek and a signal of progress.

Various Artists – Searchlight Moonbeam [Efficient Space]
Sunset light pouring through smudged, dirty windows of a hidden room in your apartment you thought only existed in your dreams.
