I’m about to post my Best Albums + Songs of the 2020s so far, so I’m going to keep this brief. May was long as hell, but also feels like it flew by SUPER FAST. Some solid albums! Really damn good! Let’s get it!

Taking a warm bath on a Sunday evening, dissolving into particles as you relax further into the soothing waters, and reforming as a renewed human shape at the end of it.

billy woods – GOLLIWOG [Backwoodz Studioz]
Face half blown-off by a rogue explosion, riding the subway to your nine-to-five as state-sponsored snipers fire upon your fellow commuters.

caroline – caroline 2 [Rough Trade]
A homemade mechanical vehicle built to climb steep inclines belches smoke and rattles its way to the summit of the local mountain, just so its creator can paint the sunrise each morning.

Chaos in the CBD – A Deeper Life [In Dust We Trust]
Hi-fi CD sound systems flank a lush dancefloor, a skylight photosynthesizing oversized plants below. A well-dressed legion of dancers boogie below, with delicious fragrances populating the space. 

Cole Pulice – Land’s End Eternal [Leaving Records]
The first wildflower blooms in an explosion-decimated version of the Earth.

Deradoorian – Ready For Heaven [Fire]
A real school for scholars of the dark arts, alchemy, magic and general psychic behavior is tucked away in an impenetrable thicket of thorns. They practice cultures from around the world from times before time was cataloged.

Erika de Casier – Lifetime [Independent Jeep]
Writing a lengthy missive on your LiveJournal page after being deceived by a potential lover once again.

Esther Rose – Want [New West]
A portrait of a life’s changeup, borne from the desire for a better life beyond the usual scrum we’ve found ourselves rutted in.

Mei Semones – Animaru [Bayonet]
An obsession with cutting out little paper characters leads an imaginative shut in to string them all together, hang them from their ceiling fan and string lights, whirling around in a joyous, made-up party.

Men I Trust – Equus Caballus [Self-Released]
Coming-of-age story where you have to rescue your high school crush from your evil half uncle. The nerd becomes the savior in an epic, dawn-lit chase scene.

Stereolab – Instant Holograms on Metal Film [Warp]
A second golden disk launched into space around the same time as the last one, crash lands back down to Earth with instructions on how to achieve world peace and touched with celestial, alien energy.

Water Damage – Instruments [12XU]
A long motorcycle ride down a desert highway at eternal dusk.
