The music of July 2025 was unfortunately hugely clouded over by personal events in my life, but I was able to enjoy a few records here and there. It’s great to have Forth Wanderers back and their new album brought me back to the late 10s, Kokoroko’s Tuff Times Never Last has been my go-to summer album, and Safe Mind has been a total obsession since I saw them back in May. Some nice variation of styles in here as well – excited for you to give em a listen.
Chuquimamani-Condori – Edits [Self-Released]
A view at a potential utopia, a slice of an alternate universe that somehow feels tangible if we reach out far enough.
Disiniblud – Disiniblud [Smuggler’s Way]
Crank-operated music boxes rise out of the earth in a dense, mossy rainforest, their ballerinas lifting off into the air and exploding like spores, drifting with the wind out into a vast plain.
d.silvestre – O Que as Mulheres Querem [Submundo 808]
Construction equipment actively demolish a city block but a party in the sewers just below the carnage rages on without issue. The grinding industrial drills amp up the volume if anything.
Forth Wanderers – The Longer This Goes On [Sub Pop]
Living an entire year in an elaborate tree house built in a mighty willow tree on the edge of a beachy marsh. Your hermit-like lifestyle fuses with that of loose, weeping branches, swaying in the distant ocean breeze.
Giant Claw – Decadent Stress Chamber [Orange Milk]
Voluntarily and repeatedly throwing yourself through a portal that rearranges your atoms with a smile on your face.
Jonny Nash – Once Was Ours Forever [Melody As Truth]
Absorbing the sunrise for a whole year until your body looks translucent in parts, and you’re able to phase through natural objects like trees and rocks.
Kokoroko – Tuff Times Never Last [Brownswood]
The absolute perfect summer evening, with a mellow bass heard from a rooftop party heard down the block.
Nilüfer Yanya – Dancing Shoes EP [Ninja Tune]
Locking your heart in an ice cave after the end of a terrible relationship, you must traverse back into its depths to retrieve it again.
Safe Mind – Cutting The Stone [Nude Club]
A computer program buddy that teaches you how to type as a kid wants to show you his band and they’re actually pretty sick coming out of your chunky desktop computer speakers.
Sa Pa – Ambeesh [Short Span]
Massive factories shifting with the Earth’s crust, rusted metal slowly scraping together to form something new.
Two Shell – IIcons [Young]
When this world collapses, the future generations’ youth will entertain themselves by physically exploring the lost, decaying chatrooms and forums of the 00s internet with their downloaded consciousnesses.
