Land Of Talk – “This Time” [2017]

Land Of Talk has an album seven years in the making coming out in May. I had never heard of the band before, but there are a lot of people out there madly excited for this thing. The first single, “Inner Lover,” didn’t impress me much. HOWEVER, this new song is really great. Powerful yet wistful vocals, a driving melody, somewhat folky vocal harmonies. Definitely for fans of say, Hop Along or Big Thief. I’ve already listened to it five times today, so I thought I’d share it here. Lastly, the incredible Sharon Van Etten contributes guest vocals on this one!

Life After Youth is out on May 19th on Saddle Creek.

Jacaszek – “Soft Music” [2017]

This sounds pretty similar to how I’ve been feeling for the past few weeks. Familiar sounds and feelings on the other side of frosted glass, just out of reach. Things are jarred out of place and disorganized. Like trying to find a constant radio signal but the dial is unable to find one, just echoed fragments. Truly a beautiful song, but it builds a lot off the feelings of crushing isolation.

scntfc – “Epiphany Fields” [2016]

A lovely song from a great game called Oxenfree that came out in 2016. I highly recommend anyone reading to play it, since it’s really easy and very story driven. It’s like directing an HBO mystery special or something. The soundtrack, as you can see here, is great synth-driven ambiance.

Kevin Krauter – “Fantasy Theme” [2016]

Expert swells. Great chord progression. Grizzly Bear-like voice. You’ll probably enjoy this.

GERMANS – “Wonderhow” [2013]

Saw this band open for The Radio Dept. and they were pretty alright. This song was produced by Ice Choir’s Kurt Feldman and it shows.

Jacques Greene – “Afterglow” [2017]

Hotness alert! The new Jacques Greene album is blazin’ hot. This song has been out since 2016, but it’s the penultimate track on Feel Infinite and brings back spicy energy to help the record go out with a bang. Gotta love that well-used vocal sample. Smooth like silk, spicy like a nice pep. Listen to the rest of the record after listening to this song, then get reminded of how good this song is once you get through the rest of it.

Recommended Albums: February 2017

img_fbaa6a19fdfa-1

Ok February was real nice, real good. I really liked February. It’s always good when it’s hard narrowing things down to just 20 records for the month. From November 2016 to January 2017, it was a struggle to find even 10. But as usual, the first ten are my top favs of the month and the second ten are still good and worth listening to. Everything is listed alphabetically, but Hand Habits was my favorite from the month. Jens Lekman was probably my second-favorite. I hope you find something you love or achieve gratification for liking the same things I like (if you’re into that).

Hey would you look at that – Recommended Albums is back in the saddle babyyy. I gotta be honest, this wasn’t too easy to put together. 2017 has started off with a wimpy sigh in terms of music that should be rocking my world. Maybe my expectations are too high? Maybe I’m so dang depressed with this crazytown world we live in that nothing feels good anymore? Either way, here are 10 albums that spark some pleasure in my brain zone that I hope you’ll enjoy as well. Truly something for everyone in here: folk, hip hop, electronic, rock, ambient, whatever. I got you.

Dntel – “Connections” [2014]

Putting aside the goofy thumbnail for this Youtube video, this is a fantastic song. I’m not really sure what to call it in terms of specific style, but it’s just really charming electronic music. Very human-sounding bleeps and bloops cascading in a mesmerizing rhythm all their own.
