I’m a big fan of music that completely transforms time and space while listening. Colleen’s Everyone Alive Wants Answers is an album that puts the listener in one of those rotator contraptions and plays them their entire life in reverse at high speeds, or, portrays the gradual mental degradation of the listener’s mind, much like the music of The Caretaker. Disorienting, static-filled loops wrap themselves around the listener’s head, like a stereotypical hypnotic wheel. Sounds are flipped in reverse, slowed down and sped up to gross degrees, distorting the sound’s composition entirely. If you really want a modern comparison, think Radiohead’s “Like Spinning Plates,” but a weird, spindly version. Something you might hear Broadcast making.
I’ve posted about this album before, I’ll likely write a long piece about it someday. I really love it a lot.
Things are quickly passing us by and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop it.
