Anyone looking for some new, aerobic, quivering pop a la FKA twigs’ debut LP are in luck! This new song “Optimist” from singer/songwriter Chelsea Jade, whose sophomore album Soft Spot is coming April 29 via Carpark, instantly brought me back to LP1 with a modern R&B twist.

Much like the music video, which flips between disorienting imagery of 3D animation, modern dance, black and white art and more, the music and lyrics somewhat play against each other. The production and instrumental itself are very smooth, very bumpin’, very romantic, with some modern trap elements in there as well; whereas the lyrics paint a darker picture of a mind second guessing itself, unspooling through uncertainties.

The upcoming album features some cool guest contributions from members of Now, Now, Muna and The Beths, who all know how to make a slick pop tune, so after you hear this song you’ll know the alchemy in the studio will be electric. Looking forward to it.
