We’re now securely into the fall and with that comes another wave of Warm Visions playlists, hopefully delving into a theme + genre that is somewhat appropriately seasonal to our current temperament. Thanks to inspiration to my friend Olivia, we’re getting into a series of trip hop playlists!
The last few years have seen a rise in trip hop, downtempo and other lo fi hip hop-influenced pop acts like Acopia, a.s.o. and more that have gained notable attention and have put out great records. Additionally, records from the greats like Portishead and Massive Attack are coming back into the fold, or rather being galvanized as some of the best bands of all time. All that being said – the slate skies and colder temps beg for a moody playlist, and so we’re starting off with a banger.
This is a bit of a darker-ish playlist comparatively, with murky synths, heavy guitars, bludgeoning percussion and slickly psychedelic. Smooth like shaved concrete, crushed underneath an abstract monument.
