Review-Sauce – Yeasayer

Alright y’all, this is my first real album review. So bear with me here. To all who are reading anyways. Whatever. OKAY. So what we got here is Yeasayer’s Odd Blood. Overall, this album is fantastic. While I was listening, I was in a constant state of “what the heck? Is this possible? I have no idea what is going on, but I love it.” Well, I now know what is going on now. It is the sheer amazing-ness of a electronic-experiment-jam-craziness gumbo. All of the songs compliment eachother and fit well together. Imma’ gonna go through track bah’ track now.

1. The Children – This is definitely an opening track. Not much going on, mostly just lots of really low, droning beats and a Knife-esque vocal style(I don’t know what to compare that to, criticize me if you want. This track is obviously not as good as The Knife/Fever Ray, but you can get what I mean).  It’s pretty good, but the rest of the album just explodes with great. (6/10)

2. Ambling Alp – If you say my earlier post about this album, you saw my raving about Ambling Alp. It is SO good. So upbeat and danceable. Pretty uplifting lyrics, too: “Stick up for yourself son/Nevermind what anybody else done.” Very nice, Very nice. (10/10)

3. Madder Red – Another great track. Starts out more slow, but then gradually goes into another form with sweet sweeping chorus and verses and bright signing in the background. “I’m worth your time.” (9/10)

4. I Remember – Wow. One of my favorite tracks on the record. This is clearly a reminiscent love song (Haha, I Remember, duh). Keating’s vocals are clearly the greatest aspect of this song. His great range creates, once again, sweeping emotional melodies and personally, I freaked out when he went from high to low(ish). SO good. Just to let all you know, this is most definitely going to be on my best of the year mix. (10/10)

5. O.N.E. – If you read my other post about this album, this was featured as well. This is their second single from the album. You know how I said I didn’t like it as much as Ambling Alp? Well, after more listens, it gradually climbed the ranks. A very danceable-singable song, very up tempo I recommend it. (9/10)

6. Love Me Girl – This one took about two listens for it to “click” with me. At first I was just going through, and bunched it with the rest. But, as I listened to it more, I found the untapped greatness of this song. This song has so much going on it; Loons (yes the bird), Of Montreal-like vocals, synthesized voices, piano, slight Knife voices again, very insane and fun song. I really like this one. (10/10)

7. Rome – Lots of percussion and bass, which is nice. Gives it a steady beat which is a nice break after the slick Love Me Girl. Vocals and lyrics are very sharp on this one as well. I LIEK IT GUYZ (8.5/10)

8. Strange Reunions – There we go on that strange rhythm again. The clapping in the background keeps it kind of off-kilter along with the dizzying beats when the clapping is non-active. Cool guitar effects near the end of this one. (7/10)

9. Mondegreen – Very crazy song. Keeps things sort of unbalanced but it still gives a steady beat. The lyrics sound like a real pop song: “Everybody’s talkin bout me and my baby, making love to the mornin light” and sings like a “pop star” too. Reminds me of salsa, or something. It has sort of a Spanish/South American/Central American flair on it at some point. (7/10)

10. Grizelda – Great title. right? Makes me think of a witch. Great ending to the album, sort of winding it down from the craziness that has been created prior to it. It has some great Animal Collective-ish background voices during the chorus, which I enjoy. It really just has that “last song of the album” feel, and it embraces it well. (8/10)

Overall, I love this album. It will most definitely be in my top for this year. I will not forget this one. BUT my overall grade for this album is… a 93%!!! Dang, this thing was good. I am telling you, buy this now! If not the entire album, get Ambling Alp (which is free, here), I Remember, O.N.E., Love Me Girl, and Madder Red! Do it NOW! Feedback on your opinons! Yeah! Alright, see ya.

Grammys? More like the “Baddys”.

Okay, this is my only rant for the year (hopefully).

I used to love the Grammys. They were awesome and had a variety of acts and music. Not all acts of the same thing each lasting about 10 minutes each. The prime examples is in probably 2004(?) where The White Stripes played. That was freakin’ sweet. My family actually went out and bought that album that night after watching. But here we have so much wrongness going down here, I can’t even stand it. Taylor Swift nominated for Country? Really? More like Pop.

Lemme give you a breakdown of  the nominations: Beyonce with 10, Taylor Swift with 8, and Black Eyed Peas with 6. What? I mean, try and spread out the  awards to other people! It’s not a popularity contest! Or is it?

I mean, the fact that MGMT and Silversun Pickups were nominated(and with no surprise, lost to a mainstream act) is  pretty good. But that is the  only thing. It just drives me up the wall! More updates after…

Comedy album – Stephen Colbert? I mean, okay. But Lonely Island not nominted? That album was hilarious! Jamie Foxx and autotune = ROFLCOPTER

Upcoming Attractions: Panda Bear’s New Album

The word of Noah Lennox’s (AKA Panda Bear from Animal Collective) new album is on the horizon. His last album, Person Pitch scored very high marks across the board including  my board (haha, does that make sense?). This album, “Tomboy” (BTW, the albums name  just came out, if that is big  news).

Apparently it is due out in September, but that is okay. There is going to be plenty of great stuff coming out along the way until then. Awesome.

Upcoming Attractions: Yeasayer’s Odd Blood

Yeasayer’s highly anticipated new album, Odd Blood, is coming out on 2/9. I bet a lot of you knew that already. I just wanted to put it out there that I am really excited. The song “Ambling Alp” has been one of my constant-listen-to’s for awhile now. If you do not have Ambling Alp, you can get it here!

I could post the video as well, but it’s kinda NSFW. So I won’t. You could probably just search it. If that is your thing.

ALSO! Yeasayer’s web site has a bunch of good deals(Well, at least I think so) with Odd Blood. You can find those GOOD DEALS here!

You can also get another free single, “O.N.E.” by entering you email address. It’s good as well. In my opinion, not as good as Ambling Alp, but still very good. Well, that’s all for me! See ya!

I’m With Coco

I am an avid fan of Conan O’Brien. I think that he is a very funny and witty comedian and a great interviewer. I have been watching the show for about 3 years now, and pretty much every episode has left me in stitches. Now everyone has probably heard of the whole beef with him, NBC, and Leno. Well, it’s been confirmed that this friday will be Conan’s last show. This makes me sad. Well, I’d thought I would try and scrape up some great clips from his run on NBC. I’ll be updating this post with more videos as time goes on. I hope everything works out for Conan and his crew in the future.

^^When Conan went to FAO Schwartz in NY^^

::UPDATE:: Conan’s last show was this evening, and it was a bittersweet moment indeed. Mostly bitter, cause it’s the end of Conan on NBC, but sweet cause of how funny it is. He had a great montage of the great times in his short 7 months on the Tonight Show, followed by a surprise appearance by Steve Carrell. Then a great interview with Tom Hanks, and a performance by Neil Young. Then finally, Conan jammed out with Will Ferrell, one of the guitarists from ZZ Top, the Max Weinberg Band, some guy playing a slide guitar, Beck, Will Ferrell’s wife, and some other people(?) to Free Bird. It was fantastic indeed. He will be so missed so much by a multitude of people. You better find a new gig soon, bud. I don’t think the world can last long without you.

“Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. If you work hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen. I’m telling you, amazing things will happen” – Conan O’Brien, 2010.

Music To Your Ears: Owen Pallett – “Lewis Takes Off His Shirt”

Okay, so that’s what I’m calling my new music posts. Posts about music that is coming out RIGHT NAO!!! Yeah, I’ll have other things on older music that I want to share.

So here is the main deal. I found a new album out called Heartland by Owen Pallett. So far, it’s pretty dang awesome. I only have two tracks, “Lewis Takes Off His Shirt” and “Flare Gun”. It’s like a big symphony, but with electronic beats and stuff. His vocals are really nice as well. I will soon get the whole thing and review it. Is that cool? Yeah. Alright.
