September may still contain a few days of summer, it doesn’t feel quite right. I should be pivoting to dreamy fall playlists, right? However, Garage Rock Summer 2026 must continue on, and it’s honestly heating up quite a bit with this new one. The fall be damned. The fifth playlist in the series is Shredders Only, a collection of songs interested in tempo and volume. There’s no euphemism or implication in the title: we’re just interested in giving you a breakneck listening experience.

You’ll find the general usual faire of Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, plus some King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, together PANGEA, Bass Drum of Death and more. The playlist also delves into some post punk near the end, featuring Protomartyr and Speedy Ortiz, and noise rock with Priests, Perfect Pussy and Disappears.

I also have to give a shout out to an EP that maybe I’m the only one in the world that still cares about, Yung’s These Thoughts Are Like Mandatory Chores. I promoted this EP to college radio after graduating and I think it has som excellent songs on it (“Blue Uniforms” is the other hit), but the band had a good bit of internal strife and never took off. I saw them live once and it was a mess. Either way – “Not A Shelter” is a JAM, like every other song on this playlist. Live fast die hard.
