New: Yeasayer – “Henrietta”

Psychedelic electronic dudes Yeasayer have released a new song off of their upcoming album that is untitled at the moment, but I am really excited about it. I loved their last release, Odd Blood and ranked it my #15 album of 2010. I liked their album before that, All Hour Cymbals, as well, but it didn’t really stay with me like Odd Blood did. Heck I even saw Yeasayer live. Great concert, except when the girl in front of me that got crushed by a drunk stage diver. That was a bad time. Nevertheless, Yeasayer know how to put on a killer show, so that’s a good signification of a great band.

This new track starts off with a sick groove set down by the bassist and some synth textures flutter in and out of the aural realm, sticking to the sort of sound that was on Odd Blood, but obviously showing an evolution of sorts: more complex build-ups and instrumentation. It reminds me of a group of futuristic gypsies from another dimension, traveling across a desert of stars. If that doesn’t get you excited to listen to this song, I don’t know what will.

Highly Recommended New Video: Kindness – “House”

I’m not sure if any of you readers know, but I think kids are amazing. When you’re a kid, all of your brain development is going on, shaping you to be the person you are today. It’s all based on experiences, as well as a fair share of genetics. I also love music and it is proven that kids that are in a positive environment with music, their development is has a better outlook. So when some of my favorite music is paired with kids, it’s a winning combination. See Tune-Yard’s last two videos for Bizness and My Country, those are some of my favorites.

In this video, Adam Bainbridge AKA Kindness, teaches Ramon, the kid pictured above, how to fiddle with a drum machine, play chords on the keyboards, teaches him the lyrics of the song, then lastly dances around with him to the song. It’s a heartwarming affair, I highly recommend watching it, especially on a gloomy day like today. Kids are great, I think. This guy is really nice too. His stage name really fits, then. Watch it below and if you like what you hear, pick up his stellar debut album “World, You Need a Change of Mind.”

Have a great day!

Elite Gymnastics – RUIN 4

One of my new favorite groups, Elite Gymnastics, is releasing their fourth installment of their “RUIN” series, this one being a bit different from the others. This one is comprised of two new original songs, plus the remixes that were on RUIN 3. This offer also comes with some other goodies including an XL shirt with the RUIN logo on it, an 18×24 wall scroll with RUIN on it and three collectible badges, one with a jelly from the video game series Dragon Quest, one with RUIN on it and one with the Elite Gymnastics logo on it. You can check out the complete offer below.

But that isn’t the craziest part about the whole thing. You can call a number to hear the new songs. That’s pretty funny. Elite Gymnastics, you’re doing pretty well in this whole music thing. I really like the creativity. If I have enough money I will definitely pick up this bundle.

Call 1-800-940-5788 to hear the two new tracks “Life/Trap” and “We Got Lost”

Have a good day!

Video: Death Grips – “Hustle Bones”

Death Grips have released a new video from their great LP “The Money Store” for the song “Hustle Bones.” The song isn’t one of my favorites from the album, but it’s still good nonetheless.

Death Grips got a dryer, to sum up what you’ll see in this video. They put a bunch of things inside, ranging from but not limited to: weed, pills, money, alcohol and some other things. Also MC Ride is seen belligerently spouting the lyrics while spraying his malt liquor everywhere. It fits the song, the feeling of something coming loose and clunking around in a dark van. Very doomsday like, per usual. Check it out below.

Have a nice day!

Album Stream: Laurel Halo – “Quarantine”

Ever-shifting pop/electronic/drone artist Laurel Halo has released a stream for her latest album, Quarantine, pictured above, on FACTMag. The Michigan born-now New York resident mostly had instrumental deals on her last EP “Hour Logic” which came out last year and released more ethereal stuff under the name of King Felix, which sounded like something sample wizard Oneohtrix Point Never would have a part in. Anyways, listen to the album below via Soundcloud. I’m listening to it right now and I’m really digging it.

Have a good day!

Radical Track: Icona Pop – “I Love It”

Well folks, it’s here. The song that will rule the summer. Icona Pop’s “I Love It,” written by goth-pop princess Charli XCX is going to be the song that is going to be blasted out of car windows the most this summer, along with being added to exercise playlists, pre-gaming playlists of “indie/hipster party chicks” and many other playlists of the sort. Why you might ask? Because it’s so goddamn simple, but catchy and well put together. The lyrics are simple and repeatable, the beat has the ability to propel people from their inert positions onto the dancefloor and if anything, make the listener tap their feet or fingers on their desk. So far I’ve listened to this song many times and it still isn’t wearing on me, which is a good sign. Sheer catchiness and simple songwriting makes this track.

So if you’re making a summer playlist, make sure you put this one on it.

Have a good day!

Radical Tracks: Oneohtrix Point Never, Danny Brown and Allo Darlin’

Woooo new tracks that are REALLY good! We have an astronomically-sized piece of the ethereal cosmos done by electronic god Daniel Lopatin AKA Oneohtrix Point Never, a fiery, new song from Danny Brown featuring a beat by the one and only J Dilla and a sugary sweet pop tune by the English group Allo Darlin’! Quite a selection this time around!

Oneohtrix Point Never – I Only Have Eyes For You

Danny Brown (prod. J Dilla) – Jay Dee’s Revenge

Allo Darlin’ – Europe

Have a great day, everyone! Remember to be nice to someone!

The Rebirth of Detroit

Hello all,

You don’t normally see posts about hip-hop here, but when you do, they’re usually ones of great proportion. Here we have the “Rebirth of Detroit” project, featuring artists of Detroit rapping/doing their thing over the work of the late great Detroit beat-wizard J-Dilla.

I am really excited about this project, since I was born in Detroit and feel a strong allegiance towards the great city. Sure, it is a largely negative light right now, but in my opinion, Detroit can make a turnaround. Soon.

Below, watch a video of one of the songs on Rebirth, featuring Danny Brown, one of Detroit’s most prominent rappers. The song is dope, Danny Brown’s aggressive style is matched perfectly with the beat.

Have a good day!
